The Beckers Group is the proud custodian of a number of world famous brands.  Within Becker Industrial Coatings, products are generally marketed under the Beckers brand name.  The ColArt business comprises a group of famous art materials brands of complementary character.  Beckers commitment is to nurture and develop this unique brand heritage.

 

Beckers

Founded 1865

Carl Wilhelm Becker opened the first Beckers paint factory in 1875, producing paint and varnish.  Beckers developed specialist industrial paints in the 1920’s to meet the demands of the new production lines.  Ever since, Beckers has been recognised as a focused and specialist supplier of industrial coatings. 

 

Beckers ‘A’

Founded 1912

This specialist range was developed by Professor Kallstenius of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts.  By the 1920’s Beckers’ Normalfargen was well established and popular with artists. It is still highly respected and sold in Scandinavia today, and follows the same precise formulations laid down by Professor Kallstenius.


Lefranc & Bourgeois

Founded 1720

In 1720  Lefranc initiated what is now known as the Fine Arts industry by agreeing to grind paints for an artist – an activity formerly undertaken by the artist or their apprentice.  For almost three centuries, Lefranc & Bourgeois has been using its skills and know-how to achieve the quality required for the fine arts sector, as well as expanding its ranges for children, crafters and home decoration.

Founded 1766

Reeves heritage is equally impressive.  From the development of William Reeves' moist watercolour 'cake' Reeves continues to lead innovation within the fine art, hobby & craft, education colours, grounds and accessories - Reeves is a leader in the new and rapidly growing ‘Introduction to Fine Art’ category for beginners, making Reeves the fastest growing art brand in the world.

Founded 1832

Winsor & Newton has always been core to the world of art materials and proudly maintains the pledge of manufacturing “The World’s Finest Artist’ Materials”.  It is a brand committed to advancing fine art material by successfully marrying science with art.  W&N answers all artists’ needs be it in watercolour, oil colour or acrylic.

Henry Newton and William Winsor were involved with the leading artists of their time - J.M.W Turner for example - and to this day, the brand strives to keep up with the latest developments in the art world and takes an active part in the artist community.
